The medical name for Disney rash is exercise-induced vasculitis (EIV). This rash is sometimes called golfer’s rash, hiker’s rash, and golfer’s vasculitis.
Standing or walking excessively in hot, humid weather can cause your legs and ankles to swell. The swelling can, in turn, inflame small blood vessels in your lower body, causing red bumps to appear .
Red or purple blotches or spots may appear on your legs. You may also see some swelling at the site of the rash. The rash can cause stinging, itching, or burning. Early symptoms include a warm sensation on your lower legs, itching, or a feeling that your calf muscles are swollen.
The Disney rash is NOT contagious, nor is it an allergic reaction to something at the parks. It is simply a combination of sun exposure, warm weather, humidity, and prolonged walking and standing.
Most people do not need to seek medical attention for their Disney rash. It will eventually go away on its own and doesn't need to ruin your amazing trip!
