Attention all Space Rangers! WE HAVE A REOPENING DATE!
If you are a fan of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin located in Disney’s Magic Kingdom you are going to want to pay attention to this!
This fun Tomorrowland attraction that closed in August of 2025 is opening on April 8! This major refurbishment will bring three big changes: a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplace enhancements. Let’s check out some of the details that Disney has released!

New Show Scene
As you embark on your adventure, you will be welcomed by a brand-new character – Buddy! Buddy is a friendly robot created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios to play a new role on the Star Command team.
As a support-bot, Buddy ensures that departing Space Rangers are fully equipped for their mission – defeating the evil Emperor Zurg. You will see him offering encouragement, performing final system checks on the Star Cruisers, and giving you an opportunity to sharpen your blaster skills. There are some new, interactive features that Buddy will help you learn about.

New Ride Vehicles
Your ride vehicle, known as Star cruisers, will receive a face lift with a new design. You will notice the colors are inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each vehicle will also include video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features! This will surely delight the competitive family members!
Handheld Blasters
Each ride vehicle will now include handheld blasters! These will give guests better aim and help you to score more points. You will be well on your way to getting that high score of 999,999! These new blasters will be perfect for kids, allowing them to participate more fully.

These enhanced handheld blasters will include an always-on laser and come in two different colors per star cruiser. This will help eliminate the frustration of not knowing where you are aiming. Additionally, you will experience new lighting, sound and vibration effects, so you know where you are aiming throughout the mission.
Gameplay Enhancements
If you have ever wondered if you actually hit a target, you will not have to wonder any longer! The static “Z” targets found in the attraction will be upgraded with new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit.
The recent updates reached a milestone when fellow Imagineers were invited to participate in a “playtest” of the new targets, blasters, and gameplay concepts. Playtesting allows the design team to test different variations in a real-world setting and gain feedback on which ideas work best and how the experience can be improved.

With all these exciting changes coming, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin has been closed for quite some time. We are so excited for April when it reopens!
