Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters – Tips For a Top Score

What are the secrets of getting a high score (999,999)?! Here are the Astro Blasters Tips you need to know.

Calling all Space Rangers, a fun slow dark ride awaits for all ages called Buzz Lightyear Astro Blast.  The Evil Emperor Zurg is stealing batteries to power a new weapon of destruction and you need to help Buzz Lightyear stop him by boarding a spinning ride vehicle equipped with laser guns and blast targets.

The goal is simple…hit anything with a lit up “Z” on it and collect points. This is a super fun ride and even the youngest Space Scout can get points just by holding down the trigger (even if you miss all the targets).   The scoring for Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blaster is as follows:

  • Level 1 Star Cadet: 0 – 1,000
  • Level 2 Space Ace: 1,001 – 10,000
  • Level 3 Planetary Pilot: 10,001 – 100,000
  • Level 4 Space Scout: 100,001 – 300,000
  • Level 5 Ranger 1st Class: 300,001 – 600,000
  • Level 6 Cosmic Commando: 600,001 – 999,998
  • Level 7 Galactic Hero: 999,999

If you are like our family and are a bit competitive, you don’t want to simply hold the trigger down and make it to Space Ace or Planetary Pilot…you want to WIN at all costs and become a Galactic Hero!

You won’t rest until your point values soar up to one of the highest scores possible. So we have the inside scoop on how you are going to achieve that highest score possible in Astro Blaster, and indeed become a Galactic Hero.  Here is how you will do it.

Tips To Help Navigate the XP-37 Space Cruisers (and get the high score!)

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters

These first tips are basic things you need to know in order to get ready for the ride. This is definitely a skill game and we want to give you every opportunity to get on the high score board by providing you with the scoring system, with the various shapes that give you different values, as well as the best tips, secrets and top scoring opportunities.

1. Test Your Astro Blaster

The first thing, and we feel is the most important thing, is test your blaster.  Your Laser Blaster shoots laser beams (light) and you need to not only know where it’s going before you start but you also need to make sure it’s working.

In order to find out if it’s working, put your hand in front of the laser and shoot to see the red dot on your hand.  If you don’t see anything at all and you are sure it’s broken, at the end of the ride, tell a Cast Member it wasn’t working and they will let you take another trip through in a ride car that works.

This rarely happens by the way.  Also, check your gun early for accuracy.

2. The Ride Vehicle

The vehicle has 2 laser cannons you can pick up and shoot.  One is for you and one is for your ride partner.  If at all possible, try and ride alone in the vehicle, sit in the left side and put the second gun blaster on the seat so that it doesn’t distract you during the game.

When it comes to maneuvering the ride car, try not to move as much as possible because this will help you stay lined up on the targets you are interested in hitting.  Obviously, you will need to move the car from time to time but try to limit it.

3. Never Take Your Finger Off the Trigger

You will never run out of shots so keep your finger on the trigger the entire time the ride is going.  There is no reason to stop firing at anytime during the game.

In fact, from time to time the ride may stop for a variety of reasons. If it does stop, this is to your advantage so keep firing and keep collecting points to get a higher score.

If you keep firing you not only have a better chance of hitting something inadvertently but you will also be able to track your shots much better as you see them continuously coming off your laser pistol. Also, you get points just for shooting even if you miss targets, so don’t stop!

Finally, always remember, you can hit a target multiple times and score each time. Keep firing at high value targets and don’t waste your time on the low value targets. More about which ones to aim for is in the next point.

4. Know the Target Values

Not all targets are the same.  You need to focus on the targets that will give you the highest point value and ignore the targets that will only give you a few points. This is important, so here are the targets and their point value.

Targets That are Not Lighted

  • Circle Target – 100 points
  • Square Target – 1,000 points
  • Diamond Target – 5,000 points
  • Triangle Target – 10,000 points

Sometime the targets will light up.  When they do, you will be able to score 10 times their usual value.  They will light up randomly so you will need to pay attention to that as you play through the game.

Targets That are Lit Up

  • Circle Target – 500 points
  • Square Target – 5,000 points
  • Diamond Target – 10,000 points
  • Triangle Target – 100,000 points

Finally, you need to be aware of, and on the lookout for, any hidden targets as you are playing the game because they can give you great points.

High-Value Targets You Should Shoot For

Emperor Zurg’s Chest

The Most Important target in the game is shooting at Emperor Zurg’s chest.  There is a small hole in the medallion under his neck that you can barely see (or maybe not at all) that will give you a minimum of 50,000 points and as high as 100,000 when your laser beam hits it.

This hidden target on Zurg can be seen as you enter the first room but you need to make sure he is facing you in order to hit the target.  Try to hit the target green square on the bottom of his gun because this will get him to move toward you and then you can hit his hidden target with your laser cannon.

3 Secret Targets on Emperor Zurg

You will see Zurg again toward the end of the game and there are three targets you should shoot at.

First, the diamond behind Zurg’s left arm.  Try to keep hitting this as long as you can.  If you hit the square on his chest, Zurg’s arm will go up.

Next, turn your cart 180 degrees and start shooting the square target on the little orange robot along the back wall. As you do this, a triangle will flip up and you can keep hitting it to gain points until it is gone.

Finally, turn back to Zurg and hit the square target on him.

Other Important Triangle Targets to Aim for During the Game

  • Shoot Behind the Robots Hand – Look for this during the very first room.
  • Shoot Where the Saw Blades Move – Again, in the first room.
  • Shoot The Triangle Targets Behind the Moving circle of Aliens – You will find this in the alien-themed room.
  • Shoot all the Jack-in-the-boxes and you will get a triangle target to shoot at – Again, this is found in the alien-themed room.
  • Shoot at the three triangles – you will find them in the dark tunnel.
  • Shoot at a circle that will make a target pop out of a box, and if you can hit it, it’s worth bonus points – this is found in the last room.

Parting Shots

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blaster is very similar to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin that is in Walt Disney World, however it is not exactly the same, so the tips you are receiving here will not work for the Space Ranger game.
