Edna Mode is one of the unsung heroes of the Incredibles franchise. She brings humor, spunk, fun, and fashion to these…incredible movies.
Edna is known for her short stature, bob haircut, and her habit of calling everyone “darling.” Most of all, Edna is the fashion designer for all the super heroes supersuits. Edna loves working with superheros because they have a great need for clothing that fits their many abilities and unique situations.
Edna lives in a large mansion which is situated on a large plot of land surrounded by an electric fence. Edna’s mansion not only her home, it is also her work space where she designs original custom-made outfits for superheroes.
In the original Incredibles, Edna is brought back into the superhero fashion business after being retired for 15 years. Bob (Mr. Incredible), needs Edna Mode to fix his super suit.
Edna is appalled at her old design, and even calls Bob’s old suit a “hobo suit.” Edna goes about fixing Bob’s suit – and then decides to make suits for the entire family. Of course, none of these suits have capes for safety reasons!
Edna Mode comes back in Incredibles 2, this time insisting on taking care of Jack Jack while Bob rests. “Auntie Edna” demonstrates a new device she has invented that will predict what powers Jack-Jack will use.
This is incredibly helpful to the entire Parr family. The fee for Jack Jack’s suit is that Bob, his family, and Frozen all never use any fashion designer other than her.
Edna also stars in a Pixar short called “Auntie Edna.” This was released in 2018. Auntie Edna is an in-depth look at what happened while Edna babysat Jack Jack in the Incredibles 2.
Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, based Edna on various James Bond inventors such as Q and M. Edna even made a cameo appearance at the 2005 Academy Awards where she presented the Best Costume Design award with Pierce Brosnan.

Edna Mode FAQ
Director Brad Bird is the voice of Edna Mode. He decided to do the voice himself after he couldn’t find anyone to replicate the accent he wanted. Lily Tomlin was Brad Bird’s best option, and she agreed that he should do the voice.
Edna Mode is half German and half Japanese.
Edna views capes as a safety hazard.

The English word “fashion” is “mode” German and French. Pixar also used a program called “EMode” at the time The Incredibles was made.
On Disney Infinity 2.0, The Glory Days is a Costume Disc which, when placed under Mr. Incredible on the Disney Infinity Base, changes the character’s in-game appearance from the costume designed by Edna Mode to his original.
