Picking your Disney resort is a huge choice. There are many factors to take into consideration, including price, location, transportation options, and theming. If you want to avoid using Disney transportation as much as possible, the location of your Disney Resort should be your number one priority.
Several of the Disney Resorts are within walking distance to some of the theme parks. There are a few things you should know.
5 Things To Know About Walking To The Disney Parks
- There are no resorts that give you the ability to walk to EVERY Disney Park.
- Magic Kingdom walkable resorts are not walkable to anywhere else.
- You cannot walk to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
- EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are close to each other and share resorts. If you want to walk to two Disney Parks from one resort EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are your options.
- All the resorts that are within walking distance to the parks are Deluxe resorts. This means they are the most expensive. The exceptions are the Swan and Dolphin hotels.
If you are looking to walk to a Disney Park we have you covered! The walking times are estimated; however, they are based on a normal walk and not a fast paced trot. Keep in mind you will be quite tired by the end of the day! Make sure you are wearing good walking shoes.
Disney’s Magic Kingdom Walkable Resorts
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort – Walking travel time is 7 minutes
- Bay Lake Tower – Walking travel time is 7 minutes
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows – Walking travel time is 30 minutes
The Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian are all on the monorail line. The monorail is arguably the easiest and most convenient form of transportation. The monorail does get insanely packed after the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom. We love having the option to walk back to your resort.
One note about Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: On the map it looks like you should be able to walk to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, but you can’t. You can use either boat or bus transportation to get to the Magic Kingdom.
Epcot Walkable Resorts
- Disney’s Boardwalk Inn – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- Disney’s Boardwalk Villas – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- Disney’s Beach Club Villas – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- Disney’s Boardwalk Inn – Walking travel time is 12 minutes
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort – Walking travel time is 14 minutes
- The Swan Hotel – Walking travel time is 15 minutes
- The Dolphin Hotel – Walking travel time is 15 minutes
You will end up at the International Gateway Entrance if you use the walking path for these resorts. This is actually perfect if you want to rope drop Remy or Frozen! the International Gateway Entrance is also the drop off point for the Skyliner.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Walkable Resorts
- Disney’s Boardwalk Inn – Walking travel time is 18 minutes
- Disney’s Boardwalk Villas – Walking travel time is 18 minutes
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort – Walking travel time is 23 minutes
- Disney’s Beach Club Villas – Walking travel time is 23 minutes
- Disney’s Boardwalk Inn – Walking travel time is 23 minutes
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort – Walking travel time is 23 minutes
- The Swan Hotel – Walking travel time is 20 minutes
- The Dolphin Hotel – Walking travel time is 20 minutes
Animal Kingdom Walkable Resorts
Unfortunately there is no walking path from Animal Kingdom Lodge to Animal Kingdom. This seems ridiculous to us, too.
Of course, every resort has transportation to every Disney park! The bus system is very convenient. You also have access to boats and the Skyliner depending upon where you are staying. Disney transportation is convenient and easy and we use it every single trip. If you want to avoid Disney transportation completely you can always choose to use Minnie Vans or Uber/Lyft.
