We’re going out on a limb to say that you’re a fan of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Even more of a fan of Happy from Snow White.
Are we right? Yes!
Today we are going to talk about Happy Dwarf! Happy is such a fun dwarf – he brings a good mood to everyone around him (except Grumpy!).
The seven dwarfs are some of the most iconic Disney Characters of all time. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was America’s first feature length animated film (released in 1937) and is considered to be one of Walt Disney’s greatest accomplishments!

Without the success of Snow White, it’s very unlikely that Walt would have gone on to make more feature length animated films.
That means that Snow White is ultimately the reason we have the Little Mermaid, Frozen, Encanto, and Tangled. If you’re favorite Disney character was debuted in a movie after 1937 you can thank Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

Happy’s Personality
“And [this is] Happy here, with the beaming smile.” – Walt Disney
Happy is, of course, happy! He is cheerful, jovial, and friendly. He seems to be the most social of all the dwarfs – he introduces himself to Snow White upon meeting her. He loves to sing and is a musician.
Happy does get upset during a couple different times in the movie – he gets annoyed with Dopey and he comes up with a plan to get into the house when an “intruder” shows up. Despite this, Happy is generally a chill dwarf throughout the film.
Key Moments For Happy In the Seven Dwarfs
- When the Dwarfs home from work they see that an “intruder” had come in. Happy wants to try the food that was seen bubbling on the fire but was stopped by Grumpy
- Happy sings a verse in “The Silly Song”
- Happy sleeps in a cupboard when the dwarfs give Snow White their beds
- Happy is actually NOT in the scene where Snow White kisses each dwarf on their way to work!
Who Voiced Happy?
Happy was voiced by Otis Harlan in the 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Otis was known for appearing in Irvin Berlin’s ragtime musicals.
Otis Harlan also did the voice of Uncle Smiley in the Donald Duck short “Self Control.”
What Does Happy Dwarf Wear?
In the film, Happy wears a red vest over a brown shirt with elbow patches. He has a belt with a buckle and blue pants. Happy has a brown hat.
In the Disney Parks Happy wears a green shirt and a green hat.

Where to Find Happy in Walt Disney World
You can meet the seven dwarfs at the Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. You may also see him at the Festival of Fantasy Parade in the Magic Kingdom.
These events have changed some over the years, so be sure to check with Disney to make sure that their character meet and greets will be available during these ticketed events.
