Referred to as just “The Prince,” Prince Ferdinand (also known as Florian) is from Snow White and The Seven Dwarves. We are never told his name in the movie!

He was the first ever Disney Prince, but he didn’t make much of an appearance in the film. The Prince appears in the beginning of the movie, singing with Snow White, and at the end of the movie where he rescues Snow White from her stepmother’s curse.

He is loyal and super dependable which makes Prince Philip a very likable and well respected Prince.

Prince Philip was captured by Maleficent and put into a dungeon on the Forbidden Mountain. The good fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather come to Prince Philips rescue. The give him the Sword of Truth and the Shield of Virtue – weapons of righteousness that will triumph over evil. Prince Philip uses these tools to eventually kill Maleficent who had turned herself into a dragon.

Tiana and Prince Naveen marry….and as they kiss they both turn back into humans! Tiana married a prince which made her a princess – and their kiss broke the spell!

Tangled – Flynn Rider

Disney Princess: Rapunzel

Flynn Rider is one of our favorites. Flynn was named Horace at birth, later named Eugene Fitzherbert, and of course is most well known as Flynn Rider. In the movie Tangled, Flynn admits that he was raised in an orphanage and does not give any indication that he is an actual royal prince. We later learn in Tangled: The Series that Flynn is actually the son of King Edmund, making Flynn the Prince of The Dark Kingdom.

Flynn Rider is a well known thief who ends up hiding in Rapunzel’s tower after stealing a crown. Rapunzel convinces Flynn to escort her to the kingdom in order to see the Festival of Lights. Flynn agrees, and the rest is fairy tale history!

Flynn’s character is reminiscent of the infamous Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Flynn is supposedly named after Erroll Flynn, a well known actor from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Many critics say that Flynn and Rapunzel’s characters in Tangled give this movie a romantic comedy feel that many of the other princess movies don’t have – making this movie reach a wider audience.

Here we see the Beast despise his appearance and fall deep into anger and bitterness.

The Beast leaves Gaston and climbs to meet Belle on a balcony. As they embrace, Gaston stabs the Beast in the back, causing him to flail his arms and knock Gaston off the castle. Belle pulls the Beast on to the balcony as he falls unconscious. Belle realizes she loves the Beast, kisses him as he is dying, and he transformed back into his human form.

Jasmine reveals herself to be the princess in order to save Aladdin. Jasmine’s plan fails and Aladdin is put in a dungeon where Abu rescues him. Disney Princess: Pocahontas

John Smith from Pocahontas. Not really a Prince but we needed to put him in the list because of his prominent “Disney Male” role. John Smith is an English explorer in 1607 and his character is loosely based off the actual historical figure.

John Smith is an explorer, adventurer, and solider. He is apparently legendary as we are told there are “amazing stories about him.” His protege is Thomas. He is the captain of a ship headed to the New World.

John and the settlers begin working on a colony named Jamestown, Virgina. John is tasked with scouting, and it is here that he meets Pocahontas. They interact for some time, until Pocahontas hears drums and runs off.

A few days later John meets up with Pocahontas again. This is when he tells her that they are looking for gold. She assures him that there is no gold in the land. When John lets Pocahontas know he has no plans of returning to England, Pocahontas decides to introduce him to Grandmother Willow. Grandmother Willow scares away Ben and Lon who have gone in search of John.

When John returns to the camp he lets Governor Ratcliffe know that “an Indian” has told him that there is no gold in the land. John tries to persuade Ratcliffe that there are advantage to working with the Indians, and shows him an ear of corn. Ratcliffe refuses, and informs the settlers that anyone who does not kill an Indian on site will be tried for treason and hanged.

Later that night, John sneaks out of camp and tells Pocahontas that his people will be attacking her people. She says that her people, also, are preparing for war. Unbeknownst to John, he was followed by Thomas. Pocahontas tells John that the only way to stop this upcoming war is for him to go speak to her father, Chief Powhatan. After conversation and persuasion by Grandmother Willow, John and Pocahontas share a kiss. At this moment, John is attacked by Kocoum, who had followed Pocahontas. Kocooum is killed by Thomas in an attempt to save John.

John is then captured by Pocahontas’ people and Thomas informs the settlers of the capture. War is about to ensue the next morning as John is brought to the edge of a cliff. Powhaton is about to execute John when Pocahontas declares her love for him and convinces the people to not go to battle. As everyone lowers their weapons, Ratcliffe attempts to shoot Powhaton, and John jumps in front of him and takes the bullet.

Pocahontas has a different ending than the other princess movies as John and Pocahontas do not end up together. John needs to return to England for medical care, and the two depart.
