What To Wear To Disney in April

As you are planning your Disney vacation you are probably wondering “what in the world should I wear to Disney in April?” You are not alone! This is a common question.

There are a number of things you should take into consideration when you are considering what to pack.

First of all, consider the photos. You will have dozens and dozens of pictures taken so it is smart to put a little bit of thought into what to wear. You want to look back at photos and love your pictures! This is especially valuable to think through if you aren’t planning on returning anytime soon.

We want to help you figure out what to pack for your trip to Walt Disney World. Our goal is to help you simplify your clothing so you can focus on other things!

This post is dedicated to what to wear (and pack) to Walt Disney World in April.

What Is The Weather at Disney World in April?

April can be inconsistent for weather, but plan on warm during the day – especially if it is sunny! The average high temperature is 84 degrees. It will typically get down to the low 60s at night. April has about 4 rainy days with an average total of 2.1″ of rain over the month. The humidity is still pretty low, making April a generally pleasant month as far as weather goes.

What To Pack For Disney: Clothing Packing List – April

Our recommendations for April is very weather dependent! Cloudy and rainy days will call for long sleeves for most of the day. Early morning bus rides will be a little chilly. Sunny days will get downright hot – especially towards the end of the month. You want to be prepared and not have to go back to your hotel. This is especially true if you are staying off property.

We recommend packing the following:

  1. T-shirts
  2. Long sleeve shirts/sweatshirt/jacket/layering piece
  3. A pair or two of pants/jeans
  4. Shorts
  5. Socks
  6. Swimsuit
  7. Sneakers and sandals
  8. Other items to consider (see below)

1. Tee Shirts

Pack at least one t-shirt per day that you will be at the Disney Parks. We always bring at least one Disney themed t-shirt because we love adding to the Disney Magic! If you typically are hot, you will want to consider moisture-wicking t-shirts. These shirts are typically thinner and are great for layering.

The Flower and Garden Festival is happening in EPCOT during April, so consider wearing floral themed Disney shirts on your Epcot day!

2. Long Sleeve Shirt, jacket, or sweatshirt

We definitely recommend bringing at least one or two long sleeve shirts to Walt Disney World in April. Lightweight long sleeve tops are easy to throw in your backpack and will give you a warm layer for those chilly cloudy days and early mornings.

Our number one tip is to try on your outfits before you go. Make sure you like how everything fits – both on you and also in your backpack! On our last trip to Disney World in April Jen wore her sweatshirt the entire day on our Magic Kingdom day. Two days later in EPCOT we were sweating like crazy.

You will probably not wear your sweatshirt all day, so make sure it will fit easily into your backpack and isn’t too heavy and big. While we love the look of jean jackets, they can be bulky and heavy to carry around, so keep that in mind. Of course, your personal preference trumps our opinions!

Puffer jackets are a great option to consider as they are lightweight, squish easily into a backpack, and dry really quickly if you get caught in a rain shower.

4. Pants or jeans

You are going to want to bring pants or jeans on your April vacation. The number you will bring is subjective to the exact weather and your personal preferences.

Again, consider what your comfort level is and pack accordingly. Pants options could include: joggers, jeans, leggings, or athletic pants. Again, this is all going to be very weather dependent.

5. Comfortable Shorts

You will likely wear shorts at the parks! Choose some shorts that are versatile and will go with everything. Black athletic shorts, biker shorts, or even jean shorts (as long as they won’t chaffe). There are a ton of very cute skort options out there if you like the skirt look!

Make sure that you can walk 8-10 miles in your shorts without causing pain to your skin.

6. Socks

This is its own category because you CANNOT forget to bring socks! You will not want to wear sandals to the parks in March We don’t recommend sandals as your park footwear anyway.

We recommend you wear your socks with your park shoes for several weeks or months prior to your vacation. Make sure you will not get blisters. We like these:

7. Swimsuit

Check the forecast and throw your suit in your bag. The swimming pools at Disney World Resorts are amazing, and if the weather is right during your stay you’ll want to swim. Or rather….your kids will want to swim and you’ll need your suit. (Check out our favorite swimming pools here.)

8. Sneakers and Sandals

As we mentioned, bring your most comfortable pair of broken in sneakers. Bring at least one other pair of shoes with you. We recommend bringing a pair of sandals to wear around your resort. It is so nice to get your feet out of your sweaty sneakers and breathe for a bit.

9. Additional Things To Consider Packing

  • Rain Gear – while the amount of rain in April is not very high we still recommend getting a cheap poncho and throwing it in your backpack.
  • Dressy clothes – some dining locations have a dress code, so please keep that in mind. If you are planning a nicer date night at Disney Springs or the Boardwalk out make sure you have appropriate clothes!

Is April A Good Time To Go To Disney World?

Generally speaking April is a good time to visit Disney World. You are hitting the tail end of spring breaks – especially as the month goes on. If Easter falls in April there will be extra crowds due to the holiday. RunDisney events will also cause higher crowds.

Be sure to check out our Disney Crowd Calendar and the Disney Special Events Calendar for more detailed information.

Other Disney Packing Tips

Of course, we didn’t cover packing sunscreen, pajamas, and other personal items! This post will help make sure you don’t forget anything.
